Medical Devices Journal Accepting Papers for Special Issue

Medical Devices Journal Accepting Papers for Special Issue Medical Devices Journal Accepting Papers for Special Issue Medical Devices Journal Accepting Papers for Special IssueMay 20, 2016 The editorial board for the ASME Journal of Medical Devices is currently accepting papers for a special issue of the journal, which is scheduled to be published this November. The deadline to submit a paper for the special journal issue, which will cover topics related to computer modeling for cardiovascular device development and safety assessment, is June 30.Cardiovascular devices must typically interact with a complex physiologic environment that can severely challenge device performance and longevity. These challenges include blood damage such as hemolysis and thrombosis changing contact conditions during each heartbeat high-cycle fatigue-to-fracture and the need to accommodate the highly variable geometric, material, and hemodynamic environment encountered across the target population. The c ardiovascular device industry increasingly relies on computer modeling as a controlled and repeatable methodology for assessing unterstellung device plan-related factors. In addition, clinicians are evaluating computer modeling as a pre-interventional planning tool that can confirm the need for treatment and optimize treatment outcomes. The special issue of the Journal of Medical Devices will feature original research that highlights the use of computer models in all stages of cardiovascular device development and assessment. Potential topics for journal papers include, but are not limited to, cardiovascular biomechanics in health and disease, including soft tissue modeling the impact of image acquisition and/or segmentation on model uncertainty shape variability of anatomic structures in the population physiological responses to an intervention device-tissue interactions assessing and optimizing device performance regulatory or non-regulatory device safety assessment and surgical p rocedure planning and improving diagnostics for clinical decision-making. Contributions are expected to employ one or more of a wide range of approaches, including computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, high- and low-frequency electromagnetics, reduced-order and lumped parameter approaches, multi-scale analysis, anatomic models, and statistical shape analysis. Submitted papers should also tie the work described to the design of a medical device, either by incorporating a simulated device as an example or by describing how the computational tool would be used in the design of a specific medical device.Papers for the special issue should be submitted to the ASME Journal paper submission website no later than June 30 by visiting http//journaltool.asme.org and choosing Medical Devices. Choose Your Career Before You Pick a College Major

Choose Your Career Before You Pick a College MajorChoose Your Career Before You Pick a College MajorChoose Your Career Before You Pick a College Major3 Catastrophic Errors and 3 Ways to Avoid ThemIt certainly is ironic Service men and women returning to civilian life often choose the life of the mind full-time college sponsored by the GI Bill, that is without giving much thought to which major will bring them career and financial success. Too often, when I ask student veterans what they want to do with the college degree theyre working so hard for, they respond, I have no idea. The 2010s labor market will not be forgiving to the millions of young people including hundreds of thousands of veterans who choose a college major without having chosen a career with the help of a professional advisor. About 44 percent of recent college graduates were underemployed in 2012, up from 38 percent in 2007, according to Current Issues in Economics and Finance, a publication of the Federal Reserv e Bank of New York. In addition, some 19 percent of underemployed recent college graduates were working only part-time in 2012.And for veterans whose military service has delayed their post-secondary education even as many start their own families its especially risky to embark on college without a career plan.Of course no one should expect returning vets to figure out by themselves which college major will qualify them for a rewarding career. Yet simply by seeking a career counselors help early in their college experience, returning veterans can avoid the devastating disappointment of starting over or settling for less. Here are tales of two returning veterans and their post-separation journeys one a story of setbacks, the other an exemplar of a successful transition to a very promising career with the federal government. Not Every Degree Will Get You Where You To The Career You WantIn the Army from 2006 to 2011, Sergeant Mariano Torres served as a helicopter technician in South K orea and as a squad leader in Fort Hood, Texas, and in Afghanistan. During his training and decorated tours of duty, Torres acquired many skills that are potentially transferrable to a civilian career, from maintaining Army aircraft and helping save lives in an air ambulance company, to training soldiers and performing complex administrative tasks.Regardless of his diverse accomplishments in uniform, when Torres separated from the Army, he wanted his life and career to take a new direction. He took a web design course with an online college, but wasnt convinced it would make a good career. Then I wanted to be an entrepreneur and either start my own business or invest in a franchise, says Torres, but he wasnt sure how college could prepare him for that.I ended up taking a philosophy course and pursuing that major, says Torres, because he enjoyed the intellectual endeavor and believed that a bachelors degree would qualify him for a career as a philosopher of education. He again distin guished himself, completing that philosophy degree with a GPA of 3.9.But when Torres finally received sound career advice from a college counselor, it contained a very difficult truth To become a philosopher, you need to earn a doctorate degree an investment of time and money that he wasnt in a position to make. If Torres had spoken with a college career services advisor much earlier in his higher education, they might have suggested a bachelors degree program that would lead to a well-paying job much sooner ideally a professional occupation that would align with both his military experience and his desire for change. At The Resume Place, weve worked with Torres to translate his military service and his major in philosophy into a practical set of administrative skills, featuring his studies of, and experience in, computers, communications, research and databases. But college coursework in logistics and transportation could have brought Torres much brighter prospects in todays job m arket.Lessons Learned from Mariano Torres Think twice before setting aside all the training and experience you gained in military service Research career paths extensively before you elect a college major Make sure your career counselor is working for you, not just your collegeKnow How To Use Experience and Degree To Get What You WantSergeant Jeremy Denton, who served in the Marine Corps from 2004 to 2008 including two tours of duty in Iraq, graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore with a bachelors degree in government and public policy in 2010. His coursework for that degree ranged from constitutional law to ethics to comparative government.Soon after he completed college, Denton landed a federal civilian job as an intelligence analyst with the Maryland National Guard. With sound advice, he found a career that combines his military experience ranging from database administration to electronic warfare to leadership skills he picked up as a helicopter crew chief with hi s academic studies of how governments make and implement policy.Even though he chose a liberal arts major over a classical pre-professional concentration such as accounting or law, Denton has succeeded by purposefully integrating his military training and experience with his college course of study.Lessons Learned from Jeremy Denton Get career advice as early as possible in your college career Integrate your military experience with your college studies Think creatively about which types of employers will value your unique resume most highly On Sale NowJobseekers Guide 7th Edition

This prolonged state of stress is terrible for your health. Besides increasing your risk of heart disease, depression, and obesity, stress decreases your cognitive performance. We need to establish boundaries between our personal and professional lives. When we dont, our work, our health, and our personal lives suffer.Responding to emails during off-work hours isnt the only area in which you need to set boundaries. You need to make the critical distinction between what belongs to your employer and what belongs to you and you only. The items that follow are yours. If you dont set boundaries around them and learn to say no to your boss, youre giving away something with immeasurable value.1. Your healthIts difficult to know when to set boundaries around your health at work because the decline is so gradual. Allowing stress to build up, losing sleep, and sitting all day without exercising all add up. Before you know it, youre rubbing your aching back with one hand and your zombie-like eyes with the other, and youre looking down at your newly-acquired belly. The key here is to not let things sneak up on you, and the way you do that is by keeping a consistent routine. Think about what you need to do to keep yourself healthy (taking walks during lunch, not working weekends, taking your vacations as scheduled, etc.), make a plan, and stick to it no matter what. If you dont, youre allowing your work to overstep its bounds.2. Your familyIts easy to let your family suffer for your work. Many of us do this because we see our jobs as a means of maintaining our families. We have thoughts such as I need to make more money so that my kids can go to college debt-free. Though these thoughts are well-intentioned, they can burden your family with the biggest debt of a ll- a lack of quality time with you. When youre on your deathbed, you wont remember how much money you made for your spouse and kids. Youll remember the memories you created with them.3. Your sanityWhile we all have our own levels of sanity to begin with, you dont owe a shred of it to your employer. A job that takes even a small portion of your sanity is taking more than its entitled to. Your sanity is something thats difficult for your boss to keep track of. This way, you return to work refreshed and de-stressed. You certainlycanwork extra hours if you want to, but its important to be able to say no to your boss when you need time away from work.4. Your identityWhile your work i s an important parte of your identity, its dangerous to allow your work to become your whole identity. You know youve allowed this to go too far when you reflect on whats important to you and work is all that (or most of what) comes to mind. Having an identity outside of work is about more than just having fun. It also helps you relieve stress, grow as a person, and avoid burnout.5. Your contactsWhile you do owe your employer your best effort, you certainly dont owe him or her the contacts youve developed over the course of your career. Your contacts are a product of your hard work and effort, and while you might share them with your company, they belong to you.6. Your integritySacrificing your integrity causes you to experience massive amounts of stress. A Critique of The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)Part Two a Personal Review

A Critique of The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)Part Two a Personal Review NOT MY TYPE?/stellung Michael MoffaNote This is the sequel to Part I One Experts Review, archived here at Recruiter.com. Recently, I peeked at the results of the Myers-Briggs Type Inventorywithout ever having taken the test, and faced a very puzzling outcome Upon carefully reviewing the detailed official Myers-Briggs descriptions of the 16 MBTI fonts, I discovered that even though the MBTI gives and claims only one type as a personal score, there are at least seven different purportedly unique types that, on natural, reasonable interpretations, all perfectly describe me, describe me at least to the saatkorn degree and better than the other nine, or, in the extreme and in some respects, describe everybody or nobody at all.Whats worse, two of the types that perfectly match me are the most extreme opposites in the MBTI typ ology. This result obtained even though the test is predicated on the claim that the differences among the types are significant enough to justify listing them as completely distinct in the first place, e.g., ISFJIntravert-Sensing-Feeling-Judging vs. ENTPEmotional-iNtuitional-Thinking-Perceiving.My critique is, as I shall show, bedrngnislage based on wishful thinking, misinterpretation of the descriptions in the official MBTI individual type characterizations, or on any kind of cherry-picking among the types or among those I asked who know me well and have known me for years.Your Final Mark is 63 and 97?Imagine getting multiple scores on any of your presumptively single-score high school exams or your IQ test, say, 97 and 42, or 85 and 149. Remember, your MBTI type, like your final exam mark or your IQ test score, is supposed to be unique among the 16 types and elend only as a label, but also in the details of the types descriptive combination of traits the label, e.g., ENTP, designa tes. This uniqueness should mean all of the following three things1. No two labels, e.g., ENTP and any other, are the same, even if some of the individual letters are.2. No two personalities types are exactly the same, even though some may have some traits in common.3. It is logically impossible for more than one MBTI test result to exactly characterize the same person. (This means that given the definitions of the descriptor terms in the MBTI type-descriptions, it is as impossible for one person to be both an ENTP and some other type, in the same way as it is impossible for an A blood type to be an O.)My issue with the MBTI is that the truth of 1 and 2 do not guarantee the truth of 3, which really boils down to the requirement that the MBTI type descriptions, as well as the 4-letter labels for those descriptions, should be partitionswhich they are not. Without that guarantee, the usefulness, if any, of the MBTI results is thrown into serious doubt.(A partition is a classification in to types or elements that are mutually exclusive and jointly exhaustivewhich means that all relevant groups or types are included and that no group is also a second group, much as heads and tails define a partition of outcomes on a coin toss. Heads and tails are all and the only defined betting outcomes and no head is also a tail.)My Multiple Personalities, Intelligences and Debonos 6 HatsReviewing the 16 profiles corresponding to the 16 MBTI types (fully listed on the Myers-Briggs Foundations website), I discovered that no fewer than 7 of the 16 MBTI categories, straightforwardly interpreted, perfectly describe me ISFJ, ISTP, INTJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENTJ, ENTP. So, like the 6 Hats of Edward DeBonos model of thinking and the theory of multiple intelligences, it seems there are multiple MBTI personalities for at least some of us, even thought the MBTI conceptual and scoring schemes supposedly preclude thisat least as results for a single taking of the test, if not upon subsequent retesting .Worse and extremely problematic for the MBTIs usefulness, the first and last of the MBTI types, which I have boldfaced and underlined, are supposed to be extreme opposites, because they dont have even a single one of the four type-letters in common. Yet, as I shall show, they unquestionably both accurately and precisely describe meon specific precise interpretations of the vague and ambiguous official MBTI descriptions corresponding to the types. In plus-rechnen to other readily available independent, objective confirmation of my MBTI multiple-matches are the assessments provided by a sample drawn from people who know me very well. A sample of six friends of many years, to whom I emailed the ISFJ and ENTP descriptions, without their knowing they were excerpted from the MBTI, yielded the result that, on a 0-10 scale, most gave me scores close to 10 for both, with 10 meaning the type in question perfectly described me, 0 not at all.One physician friend, a more recent acquaintance incl uded for an even more assuredly detached perspective, whom I asked reviewed behauptung two specific types and said that, on specific and reasonable interpretations of the MBTI type descriptions of the ISFJ and ENTP personalities, I am clearly and perfectly both and to the highest degree possible on a scale from 0-10. Even in the instances in which there welches only a 1-point separation, e.g., 10 vs. 9, the most extreme opposites on the MBTI scale, viz., the ENTP and the ISFJ, should not both fit anyone that closely. The key issue here is not whether I might have conceivably scored higher on other types that these independent observers did not examine, but rather how it is possible for me to so perfectly meet the criteria for the two most diametrically opposed types. Accordingly, the gap between less divergent types should be even smaller, throwing into question the presumption that the 16 types are in terms of their characteristics as easily distinguished from each other as their na mes are.Where the scores given by those in my sample diverged, it was always due to confusion about what some of the key descriptors in the type-characterizations met, in particular, quiet (as will be explained below). When the ambiguity of these terms was cleared up, the gap between the two ratings virtually vanished and both types were judged to match my observed personality traits almost perfectly.Unity of Opposites? What follows will show how it is not only possible, but also very likely and indeed, for some jobs, necessary for you to have multiple MBTI personality types, rather than the alleged single type that is you.Hint Notice below how the traits of the so-called ISFJ are almost entirely moral-social people-oriented then observe how, by contrast, most of the traits of the ENTP type are cognitive and task-oriented. That makes the relationship of the ISFJ and ENTP types anything but mutually exclusive, since such specific moral-social traits, such as loyal, considerate (ISFJ) are perfectly compatible with intellectual and task performance traits like adept at generating conceptual possibilities and then analyzing them strategically (ENTP).Indeed, for many jobs, e.g., mine, as a conscientious (ISFJ) and analytical (ENTP) writer, far from being mutually exclusive, these supposedly opposite traits and types are jointly essentialwhich means the ideal employee in many jobs should be both an ISFJ and an ENTP. Hence, these allegedly extreme and unique opposites in fact often do and should characterize one and the same employee. Now for the details Here is the official description of the ISFJ (Intraverted/Sensing/Feeling/Judging) type, taken from the Meyers Briggs Foundation website, http//www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/ISFJ Quiet, friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Committed and steady in meeting their obligations. Thorough, painstaking, and accurate. Loyal, considerate, notice and remember specifics about people who are important to them, c oncerned with how others feel. Strive to create an orderly and harmonious environment at work and at home. Absolutely and perfectly describes meIf this means what I think it means. (But unlikely to describe anyone at all, on another interpretation, discussed below On top of that, it may describe everyone, on a third interpretation, also described below)Quiet YES. I am extremely soft-spoken, have never shouted Woo-hoo for any reasonin fact, I find it very difficult to shout or roar I lead a quiet lifee.g. never go to bars and clubs at night, and never disturb my neighbors. True, I sometimes snore, but thats physiology, not personality.Thorough, painstaking and accurate YES. To see how this is a perfect match, read my articles and check my editing. You can confirm this yourself. A perfect fit, objectively confirmableFriendly YES. both habitually with those I know and spontaneously with those I dont, I am friendly. I talk to strangers on buses, joke with cashiers, help the elderly when they need it engage people at parties avoid formality with my students and have never talked down to them and pet as many passing dogs as I can. Another perfect fit (Except for those I am not disposed to be friendly toward, e.g., loud drunks, the evil Illuminati, and dog-kickers.)Responsible and conscientious YES. Definitely. I pay all of my bills, keep all of my promises unless Im stopped by traffic take excellent care of other peoples property, including my rented apartment and complete my writing assignments as and when expected. Another perfect fit, again, confirmable by Recruiter.com management, as well as by friendsStrives to create an orderly and harmonious environment at work and at home YES. You bet. I hate physical and social messes, so I keep my workplace and home tidy and hate to fight with anyone. Confirmable by all of my friends. Loyal, considerate, notices and remembers specifics about people who are important to them, concerned with how others feel. YES. However, th ere is a problem here Who is going to see themselves as disloyal, inconsiderate or unconcerned with how others feel? Nobody, except somebody who will admit that to a guy because she doesnt want him to ask her out or because she is looking for a masochist. So, to the extent that the loyal, considerate, etc. characteristics have no negated counterparts in any of the other MBTI types, it is unclear how they distinguish any one person from anyone else. Indeed, the MBTI specifically excludes any negative-sounding trait whatsoever. Every descriptor is flattering, none pejorativethereby lowering resistance to accepting its veracity. In fact, this is a standard criticism of the MBTI It capitalizes on what is called the Forer Effect or Barnum Effect the tendency to accept as true types of information such as character assessments or horoscopes, even when the information is so vague as to be worthless (Oxford online dictionary), with the Forer Effect emphasizing the additional belief that the v ague information uniquely describes oneself.Note how vague, ambiguous, unclear and confusing the ISFJ friendly, like quiet, is Suppose you operate out of a blasefriendly to insiders, hostile to outsiders, which is in fact an all too common occurrence in daily life, including in the workplace. Are you friendly or not? How could you possibly not agree you are friendly, even though you are unfriendly to the vast majority of human beings? Therefore, anyone who has any kind of in-groupwhich is most people, can be called friendly. Theres nothing special about that. One desperate way to rescue the ISJF category is to trivialize its meaning until it fits If the ISJF types friendly merely means sometimes friendly and if its quiet means sometimes quiet, then quiet, friendly will describe virtually everyoneespecially if being friendly on one occasion and quiet on another counts as being both quiet and friendly. Hence a perfect, albeit trivial fit.On the other unlikely hand, if quiet means, as e veryone I asked construed it, always or mostly silentlike a Trappist monk or really shy introvert, then, no, I am not the silent type.So the ambiguity of quiet and other terms, such as friendly makes this MBTI type description uninformative and unreliable.Worse, this popular, commonsense interpretation of quiet as mostly silent makes it extremely unlikely that anyone will be an ISFJ type How is it possible to be both extremely non-verbal and extremely friendly, unless youre a family dog? Taking friendly, on a natural interpretation of what friendly means as habitual behavior with the same people, rather than as a passing gesture of kindness to a stranger, it is hard to imagine how someone can be verbally uncommunicative and yet friendly.Almost all among those I polled construed quiet to mean silent, even introverted, but then immediately saw how odd it is to combine that with friendly, as the MBTI does. This means that it is hard to imagine how anyone at all can be an ISFJ type, much less the statistically second most common type in the test-taking population at an estimated 9%-11% (source http//www.capt.org/mbti-assessment/estimated-frequencies.htm).Also, look at concerned with how others feel If you are an anonymous philanthropist unconcerned about how others feel about you, but very concerned about whether they feel safe or happy, are you concerned with how others feel or not? And is such concern to be interpreted as a form of compassion, vanity or hyper-sensitivity to criticism or insult? So, are you, or are you not, concerned with how others feel? Absolutely yes and absolutely notdepending on which interpretation you assume or push. Given the Barnum and Forer effects, who is going to reject that characterization of themselves? Again, because of such effects and with inconsistencies like this, the single ISFJ MBTI type is either incoherent, ambiguous, seductive or multipleinstead of clear, non-manipulative and unique. Finally, to nail this issue of excessive generality and vagueness, do you know anyone who doesnt notice and remember at least some specifics about people who are important to themeven if they forget some, e.g., wedding anniversaries? Of course not, so we are all, in this respect, this ISFJ type. Now, heres the ENTP typeENTP Quick, ingenious, stimulating, alert, and outspoken. Resourceful in solving new and challenging problems. Adept at generating conceptual possibilities and then analyzing them strategically. Good at reading other people. Bored by routine, will seldom do the same thing the same way, apt to turn to one new interest after another. For confirmation of all of these, except good at reading other people, read my full bio here at Recruiter.com and any three of my multi-disciplinary critical articles. As for good at reading other people, does having been invited for testing by CSICOPthe prestigious U.S. Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal count? On the basis of my performance in a rem ote reading experiment done by telephone communication between Toronto and Buffalo, I was invited by the eminent chairman of that august skeptical group, Professor Paul Kurtz, to fly in for a test, the results of which were published in the Humanist magazine and subsequently of great interest to some Russian parapsychology researchers. If that doesnt count, things get problematic, because even if you or I are able to predict what other people will do, the legions of cynics and idealists among us will argue endlessly about whether we got the motives of those accurately predicted actions right, and by implication, about how well we read other people.Bottom line (in my self-evaluation and in the judgment of those who know me) Im undeniably, categorically both ISFJ and ENTPnot just a little of one and a lot of the other, or a little of both. Im a lot, indeed all, of both, depending on the which reasonable interpretation of them is accepted.Slippery Slope? It might be argued that the 16 ty pes are not outcomes like the discrete, non-gradient heads and tails outcomes of a coin toss, but more like the temperatures on a graduated thermometer that indicate a gradient of gradually emerging differences in heat and cold identified as points, e.g., 38 degrees, 39 degrees and 40 degrees. Hence, ISTP is one degree away from ISTJ, because it differs by only one letter, while ENTP is four degreesthe maximumaway from ISFJ, since all four letters are different. This would be a cogent argument, but for a couple of problems1. It doesnt explain how its possible for test-takers and those who know them to agree that two or more MBTI types perfectly or equally better than the remaining ones match the personality of the test-taker.2. It doesnt address the kind of problems of vagueness, ambiguity and inconsistency discussed above that seem to be built into the characterizations in a way that precludes unequivocal and unique interpretation of the characterizations.3. To the extent that clari fication of the interpretations of the results depend on follow-up discussions with MBTI-trained reviewers, it opens the door to a conceptual accordion, on which the tune that the test-taker or the MBTI administrator/reviewer wants played gets played.Resolution and SolutionThe enormous popularity of the MBTI should be neither pooh-poohed nor taken as proof it deserves its acclaim. Likewise, its champions and detractors (including me among the latter) should be neither anathematized nor canonized. Given a probable continuing balance of such support and criticism, is there some way to achieve a truce, if not an outright resolution of the clash? There is.In categorizing the MBTI and on reflection, we can all agree to agree that the MBTI really does test us.in more ways than one.

Marines Combat Engineer Job Description

Marines Combat Engineer Job DescriptionMarines Combat Engineer Job DescriptionCombat engineersbuild, repair, and maintain buildings, roads, and power supplies within the Marine Corps, frequently while under fire or in dangerous combat environments. Their jobs are among the most important in the Marines, and theyre often on the front line of any offensive action against enemy troops. Their jobs involve using explosives for both construction and demolition projects. They also use heavy machinery like the Assault Breacher Vehicle to clear minefields. This is considered a primary military occupational specialty (PMOS) and is open to Marines between the ranks of private and master gunnery. Its categorized as MOS 1371. Duties of Marine Combat Engineers After successful completion of basic recruit training, Marines slated to become combat engineers will complete a specialty course dependent upon their career field specialty. The combat engineer may be assigned to an engineer battalion, an engineer support battalion, or a Marine wing support squadron. Within the Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), the combat engineer supports ground forces by removing obstacles, building causeways, constructing bunkers, and other civil engineering roles.Learning to use explosives for the demolition of structures and to clear mines and minefields are also a major role of the combat engineer. They also construct, alter, repair and maintain buildings and structures lift and move heavy objects and equipment by setting up, bracing, and utilizing rigging devices and equipment. Personnel assigned this military occupational specialty (MOS) are taught carpentry and other construction skills as well as demolitions, specialized demolitions for urban breaching, and landmine warfare. ansicht Marines are specially trained to do all of this work while potentially under enemy fire. Qualifying as a Marine Combat Engineer To be eligible for this job, candidates need a score of 95 or higher on the m echanical maintenance (MM) portion of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests. This comprises the general science (GS), auto and shop information (AS), mathematics knowledge (MK) and mechanical comprehension (MC). Theres no Department of Defense security clearance required for this job. The first step after basic training (otherwise known as boot camp) is to complete theBasic Combat Engineer course, Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. If you hold the rank of gunnery sergeant, you may also need to complete the Engineer Operations Chief course. Once the Marine is a fully qualified, they will be assigned to a combat engineer battalion, an engineer support battalion, or a Marine wing support squadron. Expanding the Combat Engineer Platoon When the Marine Corps announced its plans to phase out the infantry assault MOS (0351) in 2018, it increased the number of Marines in a combat engineer squad, from nine to 13. Since many of their duties are similar, and there is a great deal of overlap in the two MOS, the decision was in keeping with the Marines force reorganization plans. Both MOS 0351 and 1371 use the same shoulder-launched assault weapons, and combat engineers are as skilled in combat as their fellow infantry Marines.

Best Tip for Resolving Conflicts in the Workplace - The Muse

Best Tip for Resolving Conflicts in the Workplace - The MuseBest Tip for Resolving Conflicts in the WorkplaceYou know the clich about how job searching is like dating? Yes, youve heard it way too many times. So have I. But the thing about clichs is they often achieve that infamous status because theyre true- or at least contain a grain of truth. If that overused analogy can provide useful insight when youre interviewing, then maybe the idea can be extended further to help you navigate work relationships (the platonic co-worker kind) once youve landed a job. Thats what I was thinking as I read an article by The Cuts Cari Romm on The Relationship Advice Thats Extra Helpful When Youre Super-Stressed. Romm writes about going to premarital counseling with her fianc and coming away with a memorable piece of advice Always be on the same side of the problem.Being on the same side of the problem didnt have to mean seeing eye to eye, our officiant explained it just meant identifying something as a shared goal within a disagreement, she says. And as she describes it, that gem has already proven itself useful with her partner as well as with family and friends. Now, if job searching is like dating, then maybe jobs are like long-term relationships, if not engagements or marriages (because very few people today intend to stay at the same company for their entire career). And, at least in this case, the advice couldnt translate better to resolving conflicts in the workplace. Work is rife with opportunities for disagreement. And its not necessarily on some grand scale. You dont have to have an arch nemesis at the office or be embroiled in screaming matches to have a chance to apply this advice. Think about small, everyday encounters with people on your team or across departments. Maybe you disagree about what a big project should look like. Or cant seem to get on the same page about what steps to take in what order. Its getting a little uncomfortable and the tension is making the whole thing harder. You wont always be able to persuade one another, but you can remind yourself that you have a shared goal. Surely you can all say you want the project to be done on time and to be deemed a success. With that in mind, you can reframe the problem. Its you and your co-workers striving to hit a deadline and get the best results. And its one team fighting together against any obstacles that stand in your way. Its another way to say that you should assume good intent. Unless youre in a toxic office or dealing with a truly terrible colleague, when your co-worker suggests something, theyre not doing it to sabotage the project. They, too, want the best outcome. Sometimes all it takes to prevent or de-escalate a developing disagreement is a reminder that youre on the same side in the grand scheme of things. And once thats your mindset, its much easier to move forward. No matter how at odds your viewpoints appear to be, theres always, somewhere deep down, some mutual des ire. At the very least, that desire is to stop arguing and resolve things, Romm writes. And voil, youre now starting from a place of agreement. So next time you feel a conflict brewing at work, take a deep breath, articulate to yourself in your wisest inner monologue voice how you and so-and-so share a common goal, remind yourself what it is, use language that reflects that when youre talking to them, and proceed from there. And if youre not 100% sure you have the same objective, bring that up Ask them what their goal is for this project- because if its not the same as yours, resolving that, or even just bringing it to light, could help resolve a lot of stress. Its pretty much guaranteed to make for smoother sailing than if you pit yourself against everyone around you. Plus, youd much rather become known as the employee who can work with anyone and get things done than the one whos constantly slowed down or distracted by minor disagreements.

Part-Time Job Resume Example for a Teen

Part-Time Job Resume Example for a Teen Part for a Teen If you’re a teenager  looking for a part-time job, it’s probably time to write your  first resume. What do you put on a resume when you dont have much, or any, work experience? How do you format a resume for a part-time job? Due to your limited work experience, you’ll likely need to go beyond your job history, and include related coursework, school activities, and volunteer experience. It’s helpful to look at student and part-time  resume examples  to get some ideas about what a good one contains.   What to Include in Your Resume When you are writing a  high school resume, it’s important to make sure you include all the pertinent information in an acceptable standard format. At a bare minimum, your resume should include your contact information along with experience and education. Beyond that, most sections are optional - you can include a skills section or objective, but its not required.     Highlight academic accomplishments.  As a student, a lot of your experiences are in the classroom. Emphasize achievements like a high GPA or any academic awards. Success in the classroom is a good indicator of success on the job, and hiring managers know this. If you have taken courses related to the job you’re applying for, list those as well. Emphasize extracurricular activities.  Since you likely have limited work experience, emphasize your non-work activities. These might include clubs, sports, babysitting, or volunteer work. All of these activities can show your skills and abilities. Note any leadership experience.  Have you held a position in a club or student government, or been a captain on a sports team? Be sure to list this experience, as it highlights your leadership ability. Tips for Writing a Resume for Teenagers You want your resume to clearly show the employer what kind of employee you’ll be. You don’t want them to have to waste their time deciphering your experiences. Heres how to do that:     Use a simple format and font.  Use a  resume template  to guide your writing. Looking at examples can help you decide what kind of content you should include, as well as how to format your resume. Choose a simple, standard format. It should be easy to read and look like a professional document. A font like Times New Roman or Arial looks good and will make your information stand out to the hiring manager. Think about what the employer wants.  Make sure to tailor your resume to fit your own experiences, and the requirements of the position you’re seeking. For example, if you are applying for a job as a camp counselor, highlight any experience you have working with children. If you are applying to be a waiter, emphasize experience in customer service, or working (or playing) on a team. Use action words.  When describing your achievements, use  action words. Words like  led, researched, tutored,  and  created  emphasize the value of your experiences rather than just listing what you did. Edit, edit, edit.  Proofread  your resume carefully before submitting it. A clean, error-free resume will show you off as a polished candidate. Ask a friend or family member to read the resume for you as well. It can be tough to spot your own typos and grammatical errors. The Steps in the Federal Rulemaking Process

The Steps in the Federal Rulemaking Process The Steps in the Federal Rulemaking Process When federal agencies create regulations, they go through a regimented rulemaking process. This process ensures transparency and gives members of the public ample opportunity to provide input on the content of the rules. The major steps in the federal rulemaking process and explained below. Passage of Enabling Legislation Before a federal agency can issue rules, it must have the statutory authority to do so. The U.S. Congress often passes laws directing federal agencies to issue regulations. Such a law gives the agency a general policy direction but leaves the details to expert public administrators. In addition to working within enabling legislation, agencies must abide by the Administrative Procedures Act which governs federal rulemaking. While bureaucrats writing regulations may seem like a violation of the separation of powers fundamental to the  American government, federal agencies may enact rules solely within the statutory authority granted to them by Congress. These administrative laws allow regular citizens to have a greater influence on regulations that could directly impact them. Citizens are given opportunities to propose rule language and comment on language agencies propose. Citizen involvement tends to produce better public policy outcomes than what Congress would produce. Just because Congress defers to agency experts on issues that most members of Congress know little about does not mean federal agencies can run wild. After the rulemaking process is over, Congress can still question agency leaders on the decisions they made in the rulemaking process. Regulatory Planning Federal agencies are required to produce rulemaking planning documents. These documents give notice to the public on the rulemaking activity coming up shortly. Agencies produce a Regulatory Plan each year in the fall and an Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Activities in the fall and spring. Together they are called the Unified Agenda. Engaging Stakeholders Regulations cannot be made in a vacuum. To improve the regulations and to mitigate the risk of the rules being challenged in court, agencies engage stakeholders in the rulemaking process. They can do this formally and informally. Agencies informally engage stakeholders by contacting stakeholders they know and gathering their input before rules are drafted and during drafting. To engage stakeholders formally, agencies post an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register. The notice begins the comment process before the standard public comment period that occurs once rules are proposed. Proposal After researching the issue at hand and soliciting input from stakeholders, federal employees charged with writing rules get cracking. After all the appropriate levels of agency management approve the proposed rules, the agency submits a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to the Federal Register. The notice has several parts: Summary: A statement describing the issue the proposed rules addresses and how the rule addresses the issue.Dates: The date when the public comment period closes.Addresses: The methods by which a citizen or group may comment on the proposed rules.Supplementary Information: A discussion of the benefits of the proposed rule, key data and other information used in rule writing, explanation of public policy choices made and citation of legal authority to enact the proposed rule. Public Comment The public comment period gives citizens and interest groups the opportunity to make known their opinions about a proposed rule. Ideally, most people and groups inclined to comment on a proposed rule would have been engaged by the agency before the proposal. Even the best possible efforts to engage stakeholders will not reach all potential commenters, so the public comment is critical to the rulemaking process. Comment periods typically run for 30 to 60 days, but some comment periods have been more than 180 days. More extended comment periods are given for very complex rules. Agencies prefer to receive comments through the online portal for rule commenting. Electronic submissions help agencies keep track of the comments. If an agency receives significant comments against a proposed rule, it may revise the rules considering the comments and must repropose the rules. Revisions are not required if the agency still believes it is headed in the right direction with the rules; however, the agency likely will revise the rules in some ways. The agency justifies the policy positions it takes in the subsequent proposal. The agency may also repropose if it is not satisfied with the quality of comments it receives in the original comment period. It would not revise the rules for the subsequent proposal if it simply desires more comments. Final Rule Once the rule has been proposed, commented on and revised as necessary, it is ready to be published as a final rule. What agencies publish in the Federal Register for the final rule is very similar to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. The effective date for the rules replaces the deadline for submitting comments. This date is usually within 30 days of publishing the final rule. The agency also responds to major criticisms in the Supplementary Information section. This helps the public understand the agency’s rationale behind revisions it made to the proposed rule and why it did not incorporate some comments.

The Right Move for a Better Career Literally

The Right Move for a Better Career â€" Literally The Right Move for a Better Career â€" Literally It’s a radical idea, and it’s one you might not want to hear. But a willingness to move could brighten your career prospects. The number of Americans who move is down considerably. In 1985 some 20 percent of Americans moved every year. Now the percentage is around half that. The number of people leaving their county or state for job reasons is just 4.2 percent, which also is historically low. The bottom line: fewer people are moving for work at a time when the unemployment rate is catastrophic in some parts of the country. Those who are moving, reports NPR, often move away from where the jobs are. People  who exchange high rents and high mortgages for a lower cost of living cede their  economic prospects in the bargain. We at Simply Hired looked at our internal numbers to see which cities are currently buyer’s markets for job seekers, meaning the competition for jobs in these places is low. If you’re willing to relocate, you’ll find the fight for jobs in a certain section of the country (more on that in a minute) is not as fierce. 1. Wichita, KS: Of the 10 least-competitive cities for job seekers, Wichita was the only major metropolitan area on the list. (For the record, Havre, Mont., came in at No. 1, meaning that few people are looking for a job in the city hailed as home to the world’s biggest farm tractor.) Wichita job seeker interest is low (and could be an opportunity for you) in the following fields: life, physical and social science; art, design, sports and media; legal; computer and mathematical; construction and extraction; and education, training and library. Tip: To research which jobs fall within the various fields of work mentioned in this article, go to: Bureau of Labor Statistics  and enter the field of work (for example: “computer and mathematical”) in the search box on the BLS site. You should get a link to a long list of jobs in each field. 2. San Antonio, TX: Of the 10 largest metropolitan areas in the nation, San Antonio offers job seekers the most bang for their job-search buck. San Antonio’s job market is only half as competitive Los Angeles and New York. Those two are the bottom cities among the top 10, which means they’re the largest metro areas where competition for jobs is fiercest. Job seeker interest is especially low in San Antonio in the following fields: farming, fishing and forestry; and military officer special and tactical operations leaders/managers. 3. Fresno, CA: Fresno has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation at 13.6 percent, but it added the highest percentage of jobs in February. Opportunities for job seekers are available in the fields of architecture and engineering; arts, design, entertainment, sports and media; computer and mathematical; education, training and library; legal; management; and production. 4. El Paso, TX: This is another city that added a lot of jobs in February. Opportunities are in production; architecture and engineering; arts, design, entertainment, sports and media; computer and mathematical; education, training and library; legal; and management. 5. Colorado Springs, CO: There’s a trend here. Have you spotted it? Opportunity is available out west. In Colorado Springs the opportunities are in arts, design, sports and media; computer and mathematical; and legal. 6. Albuquerque, NM: The shortage of legal jobs for recent grads has received a lot of attention of late, but there are law jobs to be had in cities such as Albuquerque. A few more cities where competition for jobs in the legal field is low: Wichita, KS; El Paso, TX; Tulsa, OK.; Colorado Springs, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Tucson, AZ; Omaha, NE, and Olympia, WA. 7. Orangeburg, SC: Health care is a growing segment of the economy, and Orangeburg has opportunities in the field of healthcare practitioner and technical. Same goes for Hannibal, MO, Sumter, SC and some other small and midsized cities. 8. Louisville, KY: Opportunities are available in education, training and library, a field whose jobs include teachers, librarians and museum workers, among others. 9. Laredo, TX: Located on the Mexican border and in the booming state of Texas, Laredo offers job seekers opportunities in the fields of architecture and engineering (where it was No. 1 on our list of good cities for job-seeking architects and engineers); business and financial operations; food preparation and serving related; installation, maintenance and repair; and life, physical and social science. 10. Tucson, AZ: Yes, we’re back out west again. Tucson is adding new jobs, and interest has been low in the fields of computer and mathematical; arts, design, entertainment, sports and media; and legal. Go west, young men and women.

What to Expect in a Job Interview

What to Expect in a Job Interview What to Expect in a Job Interview 2A job interview can make you feel like youre alone in the spotlight because, well, you are. Avoiding common job interview mistakes should be one of your major goals in an interview. What are some other ways to get yourself job-interview ready? Weve come up with a few strategies to consider. What to expect in a job interview, and ways to prepare: Expect it to be all about you. Set aside any shyness or reticence and prepare to explain yourself- in a good way. First impressions count, of course, particularly during your job interview introduction. Youll want to keep your composure and not get rattled under a barrage of questions. Its also helpful to school yourself on what to do when employers ask illegal questions, such as queries about your marital status, children, or health issues. Be ready to talk about employment gaps. Its always a good policy to be honest about employment gaps, particularly if the gaps are lengthy. Your goal is to present any periods between jobs in the best light possible. Working to find a new job, volunteering, becoming a parent or caregiver, or traveling are some reasons that may be viewed in your favor. Youll want to emphasize any skills you gained during employment gaps that will make you a better employee now. You should also be prepared to explain a firing in a composed, upfront, and matter-of-fact way. Describe projects youve been involved in end-to-end. One of the best proactive moves you can make in a job interview is to steer the conversation toward your achievements. If you can point proudly to a project where you were instrumental from inception to completion, consider it an achievement that you can talk about without feeling like youre bragging. Touting your achievements (with appropriate modesty) is a strategy that may help you position yourself as the top candidate for the job. Prepare for the salary question. Questions about salary during a job interview can be uncomfortable. But you can prepare yourself by knowing what youre worth based on your qualifications and your salary history, and by consulting authoritative sources. One resource to consider is PayScale, a comprehensive site that can help you determine your skills in the job marketplace. Dont feel its your role to bring up specific numbers, but if youre asked, be prepared with salary ranges, based on your research. Want to work remotely? Be ready to talk about why youre okay working alone. If your goal is to find a remote job, you may be asked about your temperament and ability to work in a non-traditional work environment- say, a home office or other virtual location. Tough job interview questions for a remote job may focus not just on whether your home office is adequately equipped, but how youll stay motivated and whether you can troubleshoot problems on your own. Bring questions of your own. Its just about inevitable: as the interview is winding up, the hiring manager may turn the tables and ask if you have questions for them. If youve done some research and have insightful things to ask about the job or the company, nows the time for your big interview finish. However, when you have no questions that add to the conversation, it can be totally okay to finish with a non-question grace note, such as expressing that youve enjoyed the discussion and look forward to the next step in the hiring process. 5 Resume and Cover Letter Mistakes Costing You Interviews

5 Resume and Cover Letter Mistakes Costing You Interviews 5 Resume and Cover Letter Mistakes Costing You Interviews When prospective employers aren’t calling back, job hunters often assume they should make sweeping changes to their application materials. But sometimes tweaking the “little things” can have a huge payoff. Consider these résumé and cover letter mistakes that may be keeping you from landing in the coveted interview chair. 5 Resume and Cover Letter Mistakes Costing You Interviews 1. A Juvenile Appearance HelloKitty1998@XYZ.com is a perfectly fine email address- for a 10-year-old girl. You might see it as cute and catchy; employers view it as unprofessional. Other actions that can be interpreted as immature include: Writing in all lowercase, all uppercase, or in text style (I MUST GRAB YOUR ATTENTION THIS WAY cuz i dont have anything u will find impressive.) Using emojis, unless you want them to send back :( Choosing a nonstandard color or font (Is Broadway pink and Comic Sans the best you can do to show creativity?) 2. Carelessness All documents must be spell-checked, period. Also, watch out for other errors that could be giving hiring managers the impression that you don’t pay close attention to detail, such as: Misusing commonly confused words (there vs. their, your vs. you’re, advise vs. advice, to vs. too) Failing to include requested attachments Inconsistent columns or spacing 3. Technical Problems What looks great on your end might not when sent, especially if the employer uses an automated résumé scanner. To cut the risk of your résumé becoming a jumbled mess, try: Sticking to a plain-text version for online applications Avoiding formatting Deleting extras such as logos and pictures Selecting traditional headers that can be understood by all systems 4. Fluff Hiring managers aren’t pirates; they don’t have time to dig for buried treasure. Make sure the information most critical to your candidacy can be spotted with ease. A few things to avoid include: Generic, overused phrases with little meaning (such as “great communicator” or “hard worker”); stick to concrete examples, preferably quantifiable ones Accomplishments with no bearing on the position at hand (unless you’re looking for a job at the beach, employers don’t care that you’re a certified lifeguard) Details of every job you’ve ever held (you’re unlikely to impress anyone hiring in IT by talking about that summer spent scooping ice cream) Touting common, expected skills, such as the ability to use the Internet 5. Confusion Finally, don’t rely on an employer connecting the dots. Be certain to present a clear application package that hiring managers can follow easily. For instance, Identify each file you send with your full name. (“Résumé 2016” might be fine on your home computer, but can you imagine the hard time an employer will have finding the specific résumé a recruiter  wants if they all  simply use that title?) Keep your name consistent; an email coming in from Joan Brown may not register as being the same person who sent in a résumé under Joan B. Smith. Explain your past titles and companies. People tend to write in terms they understand instead of thinking about if a hiring manager will know what they mean. Unless your previous employer was a household name, detail the nature of the business. Looking for more resume and cover letter advice? Check our resume tips category. 3 Ways to Conquer the Fact That No One Reads Resumes

3 Ways to Conquer the Fact That No One Reads Resumes Make Them Look at Your Resume 3 Ways to Conquer the Fact That No One Reads Resumes Yeah, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but nobody reads resumes. Don't feel too bad. I make my living as a web writer and nobody reads web pages, either. What they do is scan them. I'm talking about human eyeballs and human brains taking in and processing information. People skim around the page, looking for visual elements, words, or phrases that stop them in their tracks. The experts call it information foraging. On a resume, it works like this: First, they scan around until something jumps out at them (a familiar acronym, a bold subhead, an impressive number). Then, they stop momentarily and look more closely (maybe even read a little bit). If it impresses them and it resonates with their needs, they continue reading. As soon as it stops impressing, they repeat the cycle. Here are three ways to make sure your resume has plenty of eye-catching content for the information foragers: Tip 1. PUT YOUR BEST STUFF NEAR THE TOP Eye-tracking studies (not to mention common sense and experience) tell us people always start at the top of a page. So that's where you need to summarize your most important professional accomplishments and qualifications. Of all the things your resume says about you, which ones do you really, really hope the employer will notice? The ones that prove what a perfect candidate you are. Whatever they are, put them up top in the summary. Hit 'em with your best shot, right as they walk in the door. Tip 2. USE NUMBERS Numbers in a resume are like speed bumps for the eye. An actual number (like 25, as opposed to twenty-five) within a string of words serves two important purposes: it draws the eye like a magnet, and its mere presence lends an air of accuracy to the statement. For some reason, a40% increase sounds far more impressive and accurate than a significant or a huge increase. Of course, not all jobs involve hard sales figures. That's OK. You can use numbers in other ways, too: Supervised staff of 11 programmers. Boosted average score on customer-satisfaction surveys from 74 to 89. Administered therapeutic recreational programs in a 122-bed skilled nursing facility. Supported 3 managers in a Fortune 1000 company with annual sales of $45,000,000. Numbers are golden in a resume. As long as they're true, use them! Tip 3. BREAK EVERYTHING INTO BITE- SIZE PIECES Long, unbroken paragraphs of text are daunting, and minute details are boring. People have short attention spans, so white space on a page helps give the eye a rest. Though they're not quite as effective as numbers, unusual text elements also serve as visual speed bumps: (Punctuation) Italic or bold type Bullet lists CAPITAL LETTERS or acronyms (FYI). Underlining also draws the eye, but I'm not a fan. Not only does the underline cut through such letters as p,j,g,y,q (see?), it alsolooks like a hyperlink. Accept the fact that your resume may never be read top-to-bottom, left-to-right, start-to-finish. But if you make it an eye-catching, user-friendly tool that caters to a busy hiring manager's short attention span, it can still do the trick.

How to win the biggest battle of all within yourself

How to win the biggest battle of all within yourself How to win the biggest battle of all within yourself “The toughest battle you’ll ever fight in your life is the battle within yourself.”?- ?Anonymous Within each day, each moment of life, each challenge, adversity and mistake, there’s something to be won. Everything we categorize or think of as a loss can be converted into a win. The magic of life is about self-discovery: It’s our job to find the wins, to recognize the opportunities for personal growth and to move forward wiser, more self-aware and better prepared for the next battle. If we focus and concentrate, using the power of our minds, we’ll begin the process of overcoming the things that hold us back. We’ll start to embrace the battles and view them as part of a longer journey- one that will take us to highs, lows and everything in between. Everything I’ve learned in my business career and personal life has taught me that equanimity is the most important unspoken truth of life. The moment that we allow life to drag us down, thinking that there’s some indefinite time period before we can recover, is the moment that we surrender our free will. Successful businessw omen like Sheryl Sandberg have used adversity to their advantage repeatedly and have moved forward with brilliance and grace.Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran overcame a major stuttering problem as a child to become one of the most successful recording artists on the planet. Remarkable that someone who struggled with stuttering could wow so many people with the power of his voice. Sheeran refused to give up.Basketball star LeBron James never gets too high after a big game, and never believes anything is too challenging. In the 15th year of his long, storied career, he has been pressed to his physical limits and yet again, finds himself competing for the NBA championship. He’s lost five times in the NBA Finals. But he’s kept coming back for more. It’s why he’s a champion and one of the greatest players to ever live.“The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself, the invisible, inevitable battles inside all of us, that’s where it’s at. ” Jesse Owens”Winning the battle takes extra effort and more than we thought possible. But it’s there if we want it. We must accept the challenge and we must do so with a spirit of courage that embraces risk. If you’re not willing to risk, if you just want to play things conservatively and hope for the best, you’ll be sorely disappointed. The conservative route is a loser’s strategy, and yet so many people think minimizing risk in ventures is the right way to play. The battle within is triggered by external stimuli. We either react to what comes at us or take up the gauntlet and start attacking life proactively with a winner’s mindset. If you sit there and wait all the time, life begins to consume you. The struggle to be successful in your career starts to feel overwhelming every time you let up and think you can coast by.Your relationships begin to flounder when you stop working for them and think that everyone should “come to you” and things will work out all righ t. Life is a contact sport and you must be willing to compete and battle for what completes you. This means mastering your emotional and mental abilities through a mindset geared toward continuous improvement. To be at peace mentally and emotionally, we often need to be at peace spiritually. This means?- ?we have to accept life for what it is, to acknowledge things at face value, then do our best to influence and impact how we want to change things so they will align with our truth?- ?our vision and purpose. It is this vision and purpose that must guide us to win the battle within.4 Ways to Win Your Battle Within1. Build in time for self-reflectionSuccessful people who live boldly and joyfully are great thinkers. They don’t suffer from “paralysis by analysis,” but rather they spend time in deep thought about how they want to design their lives. They think of traps to avoid, they have an excellent memory which steels them against repeating future mistakes. They overcome negative thinking with optimism and hope.I recommend dedicating a minimum of 15-minutes daily to thinking of all that you’re facing right now in your life. You won’t be able to solve all your problems in 15 minutes, but you will know what you’re up against. You’ll be able to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for each part of your day and you’ll become more resilient for approaching new and old obstacles.2. Find the environment that will enable you to clear your mindWhat place works for you? Does it help you to meditate or find time in solitude in the confines of your own home? Is it in a public space like the library? Is it a church or house of worship? Maybe you need to get out in nature, disengage, unplug and find your inner-voice. We all need peace if we’re going to be great warriors against the things that threaten to derail us.I encourage you to find a place where you can think clearly and passionately.“There is an amazing power getting to know your inner self and learning how to use it and not fight with the world. If you know what makes you happy, your personality, interests and capabilities, just use them, and everything else flows beautifully.”?- ?Juhi Chawla3. Bucket your worries and anxious thoughts into categoriesWhen you struggle long enough with anxious thoughts and fears, you come to a fork in the road. You either do something about it, or you become complacent. Remember this?- ?action is always better than inaction. Compose a list of all your worries and anxious thoughts. Once you have these in one place, begin bucketing them out and categorizing them. This simple act of shining a light on what affects us mentally and emotionally is vital in helping us develop a winner’s mindset. What do I mean? When you’re able to isolate and highlight the things that threaten you, you’re better able to analyze and target ways to overcome them. You can dismiss some thoughts as unfitting of your time and move on.Some of our biggest worries or concerns seem very trivial when we open them up to the light.4. Game PlanUltimately, you have to do the work. Better organization leads to better results. Become skilled at planning and executing off the plan you set for yourself. To win the battle you must know your enemies. And you must learn how to defeat them. Kindness, perseverance, gratitude, humility and hard work are all great values that will help you.Having a plan is a tremendous safeguard against down times and bad thoughts.
